Finding your furever pet takes time. There are so many options to choose from: Cats, Dogs, Fish, Hamsters, Bunnies, etc. Where do you begin your search?
Know what the pet you are choosing requires for care; special licenses or tags, medical needs, food, training. Do you have at least 1 hour every day to exercise with your pet? Do you have enough space in your home for a comfortable place for your pet to sleep, eat, play? Can you afford medical care for your pet including required vaccinations?
Once you have decided which type of pet is best for you, you are ready to find him! A great place to start is at your local animal shelter or rescue group. Your local shelter will have both cats and dogs, and may sometimes have birds, bunnies or reptiles. Rescue groups focus on one particular breed such as Collies or Labrador Retrievers or just cats. Also, check out your local Animal Control facility.
