Meet Porky – Our Foster Dog
We met Porky at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. We could not understand why such a gentle soul has been waiting for a family to adopt him for a year.
Then we realized that most people that search for a pet in animal shelters don’t understand how stressful it is for a dog to be living in a kennel, away from the familiar, still scared from being left outdoors to fend for himself; unfamiliar sounds, smells, sights. These homeless pets release their stress in different ways; they bark; they lunge at the kennel door; they try to hide in the corner; they spin in circles; they might even growl. The longer the dog is in the kennel, the higher his stress level.
It’s truly amazing how different these dogs are once away from the kennel. That is why Foster Parents are so important to animal shelters. Foster Parents offer a respite from the stress, helping restore natural balance in the dogs so they can show how amazing they are.
Our goal as Foster Parents is to find a forever family for our Foster Dog, Porky, before he has to return to the shelter. We are doing our part to show Porky how to behave in a home; that a comfy bed, food, and playtime are normal, everyday events. He has adapted very quickly to being in a home. He has only lifted his leg once indoors, found his place on the sofa, discovered that the really good food is on the counter, and decided that the other dogs and people walking around the pond are potential friends. While Porky doesn’t yet know what sit, down, or stay mean, he’s very smart and has learned not to jump on the door when he wants outside – he simply noses the door handle now. The family that adopts Porky will be a very lucky family indeed.
If you are interested in adopting Porky, please contact us at Bridgett@UltimatePetServices.net or call 855-265-8654.
If you cannot adopt a pet as a permanent family member, please consider volunteering at your local shelter. You can help socialize the residents or become a Foster Family to help these homeless pets find their forever home.
